Indigenous Girls’ Leadership and Cultural Preservation Initiative in Karamoja

 

This project therefore combines cultural preservation with girls’ empowerment, leadership, education, and intergenerational learning.

Project Goal

To empower Indigenous Karimojong girls to become confident community leaders while preserving and promoting Indigenous cultural identity, traditional knowledge, and community heritage.

Specific Objectives

  1. Strengthen leadership, confidence, and mentorship opportunities for Indigenous girls in Karamoja.
  2. Reduce vulnerability to child marriage, school dropout, and exploitation through education and community engagement.
  3. Preserve Karimojong Indigenous cultural heritage including songs, dances, storytelling, beadwork, oral traditions, and traditional knowledge.
  4. Equip girls with digital storytelling and documentation skills to record and share community traditions.
  5. Promote intergenerational learning between elders and young girls.
  6. Create safe spaces where girls can discuss challenges affecting their lives.
